Blind Skateboarder Silences Critics

This is why you gotta be in tune wit' cha star player people!

Tommy Carroll was born with cancer of the retinas and has been blind since age two. But that hasn't stopped him from achieving ANY of his goals. This is why excuses don't fly in my book.

The NorthWestern University student has been skating since the age since the age of ten. He says he uses sound, the sound of his wheels to be exact, to detect direction, if there is anything in his way, etc.

Tommy's attitude is the determining factor in his success.

"I think everybody should know that everything happens for a reason and there's always a way to overcome an obstacle if you really want it enough."

He says his naysayers pushed him to master the sport and prove them wrong.

"There were people who discouraged me. They were like, 'There’s no way. You’re going to kill yourself. Blind people can’t skateboard.' So I just ignored them."

Tommy's story attracted skateboarding legend Tony Hawk, who flew to Glenview, IL, to interview and skate with the amazing young man.

While his father was cool with the situation, his mother, not surprising, showed concern at first, but eventually relented.

Tommy now uses his platform to highlight the positive side of skateboarding, such as being a great alternative to drugs (get the high w/o getting high lol) as well as promoting the importance of safety gear.

Just goes to show that if you want something bad enough (and work your @ss off for it) you can have it! You Go Boi!
